Holmethorpe Sand Pits, Surrey ... 8th February 2010
A quick walk around my local patch in sleet and wet snow showers produced the long-staying female Smew, a female Goldeneye, 10 Gadwall, 5 Pochards and 13 Shovelers amongst the numerous Tufted Ducks. A Water Rail was heard squealing at one of the pits and 164 Lapwings were roosting on another pit.
